Selwyn Street Student Accommodation is a 96-room student accommodation facility spread across 4-storeys and a basement level. During construction, it was the second largest project happening in Tauranga. Fosters were involved from the concept stages, allowing for a collaborative process to take place right from the project’s inception. Facing a tight budget and other constraints created by the site’s location, this approach allowed the project to flow smoothly from start to finish. That’s not to say that Foster didn’t face challenges.

A large existing concrete retaining wall and the proximity of existing fencing and basement meant working under tight conditions. Obviously, the pandemic presented its own challenges, too. Ultimately, the value that Foster added through their management of the project and the buildability advice that went into the concepting and design stage led to a project that was delivered on budget, with minimal disruption to surrounding residents. Delivered in Q2 2021, the facility provides significant benefit to the local community and student population.

This project won a Gold Award in the residential category the 2022 Master Builders Commercial Project Awards.
