McCaw Lewis, 586 Victoria Street

Project Details

  • Location: Hamilton

  • Value: $2.2M

  • Completed: 2019

  • Scale: 1700m²

Fosters were selected as the main contractor for a number of fitout developments at 586 Victoria Street in Hamilton. Included in these was the upmarket refurbishment of the McCaw Lewis law offices. Located on the fifth and sixth floors, this industrial styled renovation resulted in new work spaces designed to maximise the panoramic views over Hamilton City. The design featured neutral tones and natural materials, creating a feeling of homeliness with accents of luxury.

The project was a negotiated contract with an extremely tight timeframe. Both floors needed to be completely gutted and subsesquently fitted out. The new sixth floor frame was constructed on the ground and lifted into position by a crane.

The building had existing tenants working during the construction phase, therefore, health & safety needed to be carefully considered. Two brand new lifts were installed as part of the fit-out, extending both to the sixth floor. The ground floor foyer was gutted and remodelled to include end of trip facilities for those wishing to cycle or run to work. Existing bathrooms on all three levels were refitted and new meeting spaces were added to the ground floor for building occupants to utilise.

The project was awarded silver at the 2022 Master Builders Commercial Project Awards.
