Project Details
Location: Hamilton, Waikato
Value: $30M
Completed: 2017
Scale: 7,000m2
Sector: Commercial
Contract: Negotiated Design & Build.
This joint venture between the client and Fosters Develop saw the transformation of an old supermarket into a sustainable A-grade commercial office space for over 600 Genesis Energy employees.
The Genesis Energy office redevelopment provides a perfect illustration of how well-managed collaboration leads to success.
The footprint of the supermarket was converted into a ground floor carpark. A further two storeys of office and a call centre were constructed above the carpark. A new three-level IL4 structure was constructed as an adjoining building, housing the Genesis Energy engineers, office staff and control centre.
The client placed an emphasis on sustainable design, with features such as a light atrium, EV charging stations, and energy-efficient heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting systems. The mechanical ventilation system used efficient direct expansion heating and an air curtain system was installed to reduce heat loss from the foyer.
This was an extremely technical project, with its IL4 seismic design and the requirement for generator back-up to ensure the building remains operational in a power outage or emergency situation.
